In accordance with Commission on Cancer guidelines, Tumor Board
conferences provide a forum for physicians and other health care
professionals to evaluate and discuss patient cases and collectively
determine proper courses of treatment, based on type of case presentation.
Case presentations included a review of pertinent medical history,
physical and laboratory findings, an overview of pathologic slides
and radiological studies, and discussion of therapeutic alternatives
in the management of cancer.
Since most of these presentations were prospective, they focused
on pretreatment evaluation, staging, and treatment strategy or
management options to be undertaken anytime during the course of
a patient’s
disease. With an attendance rate of more than 85 percent in 2007,
physicians represented surgery, pathology, radiology, medical oncology
and radiation oncology.
In 2008, the Tumor Board will meet based on the following case
